Dear Friends of AIM-WEST and MEDIA PERSONNEL; For Public Release
On Monday, September 12th a celebration birthday party for Leonard Peltier, who will have 67 winters on sacred Mother Earth, will be held at Inter-Tribal Friendship House, at 523 International Boulevard, in Oakland. The event begins at 6 pm with a pot-luck dinner (please bring food to share and favorite desserts!) the Special guest speaker is Len Foster, spiritual advisor for Leonard Peltier who has been incarcerated now over 35 years. Ms. Lorna Cervantes will read from her poetry, and FuiFui and Pacific Islanders will be on hand to perform in solidarity with political prisoners, and grandfather, Leonard Peltier. There will be drummers and singers, a raffle, and cake and ice cream so bring the family. Leonard will love it!
Also, stay tuned on website www.aimwest.info for other activities during October such as AIM-WEST hosting the American Indian Movement 2nd international Film Festival in San Francisco at the Bahai Center on Monday, October 10th starting at 12 noon until 10 pm. It is also a state holiday so take full advantage of it by attending to outstanding film screening depicting Indigenous peoples in struggle for self-determination in its many facets; films such as “La Mission”, “The Sixth Sun; Mayan Uprising in Chiapas” and “Song for a Dead Warrior” including “Even the Rain” and “The Tiniest Place” and “We Are One”. Film directors Saul Landau, and Peter Bratt will be on hand for Q&A!
On Wednesday, October 12th a walk, march and rally will begin at Delores Park in SF leaving at 10:30 am to downtown SF at Yerba Buena Gardens in a program that will begin at 12 noon to commemorate 519 years of Indigenous Peoples Resistance to Colonization throughout the Americas. The event includes traditional dancers, drummers and singers, speakers and noise makers all to protest and challenge attitudes about the Columbus Day recognition that governments across the western hemisphere give attention to this killer pirate recognized as the discoverer of the Americas. This occasion is being coordinated with cities all across the sacred Turtle Island. Join us on this grand occasion and make it a memorable one that our children can learn from our actions on “Dia de la Raza” Day for Indigenous Peoples!
