AIM-WEST Plans “Liberation Day” Event Feb. 27 in San Francisco
February 23, 2014
Next week Thursday, February 27th known across Indian land as "Liberation Day" will mark the 41st year anniversary at historic Wounded Knee, South Dakota, in 1973.
A commemoration rally and press conference is being planned by AIM-WEST and a coalition of support groups in San Francisco Bay Area for next Thursday from 12-1 pm with a noon rally at the Federal Department of Justice Building (450 Golden Gate St. bwtn Polk & Larkin) and reception later that evening at the California Institute for Integral Studies, from 6:30 to 9 pm, located at 1453 Mission St.
Mr. Len Foster spiritual advisor to political prisoner Leonard Peltier, incarcerated now over 38 years, is our guest speaker with news to share about Leonard Peltier's case, and his recent visit last month along with a United Nations special rapporteur who is now also calling for executive clemency which he included in his final report to the UN!
We demand Leonard's immediate release, either through a new trial, a fair trial, executive clemency, or compassionate release! Further, we call on the FBI to be held responsible for their assaults and (65) unaccounted murders inflicted on the Native Americans at Pine Ridge, South Dakota during the "Reign of Terror" (1973-76) which set the stage for Leonard Peltier's travesty of polluted justice and inhumane imprisonment.
Also Prof. Roxanne D. Ortiz, book author, "The Great Sioux Nation: Sitting in Judgement on America" an oral history of the Sioux Nation & it's Struggle For Sovereignty, will discuss Treaties US made with Indigenous nations and all ratified by the Congress, and yet all have been violated!
A film "Tattoo on my Heart" (2004) testimonies from Wounded Knee veterans will be screened, and a brief DVD footage of last year's 40 year commemoration held in South Dakota will be available for a donation.
Bring refreshments and finger food is appreciated!
Thank you all my relations,
Tony Gonzales AIM-WEST Director www.aimwest.info
