For Immediate Press Release

AIM-WEST, a San Francisco inter-tribal community based human rights advocacy organization, will host “Liberation Day of the Land” on Monday, February 21, from 10 am until 2 pm (Federal Holiday, “President’s Day) at “Land’s End” near the Cliff House (Sutro Headlands), at the western end of Geary Street in Yelamu, otherwise known as San Francisco! The public is invited!

The annual commemoration is to bring attention to First Peoples/Nations of these lands and of their contribution to today’s wealth in society. On this sacred occasion we will honor with fire and tobacco offerings, to the American Indian nations, tribes and communities, giving respect and recognition for their fortitude, strength and of their will to survive under excruciating times and circumstances over the centuries! Ms. Ann Marie Sayers, Ohlone Nation, is our specially invited M.C. along with other guests, speakers, singers, dancers and drummers; everyone is welcomed.

A special healing song and ceremony will be performed for a recuperating red-tail hawk starting at 10 am and a press conference is scheduled for 11 am. Issues and announcements to be addressed include; the Longest Walk III which begins February 14th; reclaiming the original name now known as the city of San Francisco to YELAMU, at an original camp site of the Muwekma Ohlone; call for a Congressional investigation of the California 18 un-ratified treaties of 1852, demand that California Public Schools to immediately cease further use of American Indians as mascots in public sports; demand an apology from the U.S. government for their corrupt policies of instituting racism during the Boarding School period, and their abuse of American Indian children. AIM-WEST also calls on the U.S. to be true to their words and sign the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as President Obama had said.

An open-microphone opportunity will be provided. There will be refreshments and literature, bring banners and placards. Children and youth are especially invited.
