Madonna Thunder Hawk Injured in Accident Caused by Severe Weather.

Madonna Thunder Hawk is an elder AIM activist, co-founder of WARN (Women of All Red Nations), and lifelong freedom fighter from the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. She is a veteran of the Alcatraz occupation and other struggles. On May 6th, she was one of 40 elders and tribal leaders at a meeting in the Cherry Creek community when severe weather hit. Strong winds caused the roof to collapse and the building was destroyed. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but Madonna and some others were seriously injured. Madonna fractured her hip socket, and has two more fractures in her pelvic bone and severe bruising in her chest. She is hopefully getting out of the hospital on Friday May 15th, but when she gets out she will need to stay in a motel for a week or so, so she can get to the doctor and because her kids' houses have bathrooms upstairs. She will need to use a walker. Madonna has dedicated her life to the struggle for self-determination and social justice. Let's show her that we will support her in her time of need.

Below we have published a video segment (shot by MaryEllen Chruchhill) of Madonna on Alcatraz 2008. In addition to this fundraiser, please consider donating to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe to help with the storm recovery.
